Jack of all trades

The weather in Bombay city never fails to surprise us, surprisingly the Winter Romance still seems to linger on. While many would talk about bringing out the brandy, we’d take this opportunity to get out those jackets we’ve been dying to wear.

Getting out the jackets has made us realize how versatile they can be and how they can work for everyone.

So lets show you this week’s snazzy avatars

Purple Jacket: Andrew & Co.
Shocking Pink Top: Tailored
Pleated Chiffon Pants: Singapore (available here as well)
Silver Snake-Skin Dress: Collezioni Moda
Gold Chain: Detached from a bag from Karishma's personal collection
Sunglasses: Carrera
Shoes: Bangkok

(Prices on request)

Neon & Shocking colors are must haves this season so keeping that in mind you can team a dull pair of pants with a top of a bright solid color and a nice neckpiece that grabs attention as well as gives it that snazz.

We’d advice all you girls to go out there and get yourselves a pair of pleated pants. The cut of these pants gives that ‘apple bottom’ look that makes them extremely feminine yet playful.

On the other hand when teamed with a dress the jacket adds that sophistication you’re looking for while at the same time leaving the playful bit intact.

Its amazing how the jacket enhances both of the outfits to bring out a completely different avatar. Get them out and experiment, you won't know it till you try it.

Got the FLARE?

Are flares & bell bottoms back in?

The simple answer is yes, flared jeans and bell bottoms as well as wide-leg pants are back in. The reason why is almost as simple: skinny jeans have become so common, such a staple in most everyone’s wardrobe, that people are seeking an alternative. At the same time you have the revival of 1970's fashion as a major influence of trends across 2011/12.

It goes without saying that the return of flares pants and jeans in 2011/12 is not to be interpreted as a return of the baggy jeans. It’s also not a return of the boyfriend jeans style that was popular throughout 2008 & 2009.
Instead bell bottoms & flared jeans for women in 2011/12 are all about a neo-1970s style that has the following elements:
  • A hem that is at least as wide as your foot – the men’s hem doesn’t apply to the women’s interpretation of the trend
  • Loose at the knee – We’ve already seen some takes on the trend where the jeans are cut very slim down the thigh and the knee and then flare out from below the knee cap. This is a 1990s interpretation of flares and not the style that’s on trend in 2011/12
We want you to look you're snazziest at any point in the day may it be at college, at work, at lunch or at dinner. So heres a look thats very WORK-able as it adds that snazz to your 9-5 routine and one thats definitely going to catch more than one eye.

Also if just the top isn't enough for the occasion you can dress it up with a sleeveless overall that can give an entirely different look to the ensemble. It can be tied/buttoned or simply left open. Its your prerogative!
(Caution: Go simple on the footwear if the look has a print going on already)

Bright Orange Top: NUON by Westside
White Flare Pants: Marks & Spencer
Leopard Printed Shoes: Christian Louboutins
Sleeveless Overall: Collezioni Moda
Sunglasses: Charles & Keith
Belted Latch Bracelet: Aaruh
Laptop Bag: Tappu Ki Dukaan – Colaba
Blue Clutch: Personal Collection
Gold Ribbon Belt: Handmade
(Prices on request)

It’s not really surprising that many people place flares amongst the list of things they have qualms about. They can be a tad hit-or-miss. They also, most of the time, call for a pair of heels to be worn under them for full effect, and that’s not always practical. But when done right a little bit of flair can be well worth the risk.

This outfit comes off as sophisticated yet effortless, especially because of the white. The relatively straight-cut leg that flares out from the knee down, results in a neat silhouette while the bright orange colored top adds to the look.
Keep in mind that too much is not good, so accessorize with a minimalistic looking bracelet and/or ring (as shown above) to finish what you started.

The printed laptop sleeve is something we couldn't resist adding here as it brings that fun element to a rather regular office look. Incase you do not plan on wearing this to work then the clutch is the perfect choice for any other occasion.

Stripy Hot for 2012

Color was everywhere on the runways for spring/summer. However , many top designers mixed in black and white creation's, and also dull neutrals seem to hold on this season.

This great design is by Michael Kors. Note how he incorporated lace in the skirt, and mixed it all up with a sporty strip mix at the top.

Lace is big this season, it is being used as never before. It is popping up not only in evening wear and     lingerie, but ready to wear- not to mention its covering shoes, and handbags, you name it...

Check out the fab handbag - bright white clutch with shiny chains. The biggest trend in handbags this spring/summer - short strapped oversized handbags or totally over sized clutch's... Another big trend in handbags that was evident on this springs runways, lots of shiny hardware.

-Keep up with the trends!

Winter Romance

The sudden chill in the air has given us even more of a reason to get out there stylishly. Living in Bombay most of us don’t really relate to the concept of ‘winter clothes', since winter is almost NEVER felt - it comes & goes before we even know it.

This post around, we’ve got for you a quick and simple avatar that you can get yourself into without having to worry about – ‘Where else will I even wear it’, ‘do I even need it’, ‘Is this winter just a one day thing to even bother about’ & other such questions that pop into your head.

This look in a few words is – Easy, Feminine, Playful & not so heavy on the pocket.

Knitted Sweater: Own closet
Cardigan: Vero Moda
Green Belt: Hill Road
Tights: Joyce Leslie
Ankle Length Boots: Bangkok
(Prices of all the above on request)

As you all know this season is all about colors, instead of going with the tried & tested blacks & greys if not a lot try adding a little color to your outfits. Devina is wearing a knitted sleeveless sweater that is layered with a frilled cardigan that is up to date with the upcoming trend this season.

A regular belt used with jeans is worn as a waist belt with the buckle tucked away behind in order to give it a different look.
(Just a tip: The belt can be worn inside over the knitted sweater or above the cardigan)

Lets face it, its cold but not that cold so to make this ensemble trendier we have gone for full length tights with back seams which have a silver line running through the middle. The tights are paired with ankle length boots to complete this look.

So find that sweater that has been neglected all this while & give it the importance it really deserves; dig into your closets to get this look right & keep it snazzy.

Crafty yet chic

So this time around we decided to do things differently here at Snazz Prerogative.
Indian craft is a matter of great interest to us. We decided - why not try incorporate that in our daily lives by giving it that importance and attention it really deserves, not to mention add that snazz factor to it.

We visited the Paramparik Karigar exhibition that took place at Kamla raheja college juhu & found ourselves a lot more that we thought we would.
BUT, before we go on and on about it a little background on what its all about.

Paramparik Karigar (A Craftsman's Heritage) an association of craftsmen was founded in 1996 with the assistance of Roshan Kalapesi. The idea was rooted by Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay when she was approached by a group of master craftsmen who wanted to form an organisation of their own.
In the new era of technology, industrialisation and modernisation we have overlooked our rich heritage and tradition of art and craft, our nation's pride and assets.
The principle aim of Paramparik Karigar is to preserve and promote traditional art and craft of India. To ensure that craftsmen continue to create their craft, earn a sustainable income and encourage their children to continue the tradition by passing it on to them and ensure their skills stay relevant and alive.

Heres some of the stuff that we think are some must have's in your closet that are trendy, chic and VERY SNAZZY :)

Wood Carved Earrings in different patterns.

Handmade Bags
Black Bag: Mojri Material
Purple Bag: Washable Jute

Badri & Stone work rings

Bracelets made of bedazzled ghungroo material with mal-mal on the inside

Clutch bag (on the left), Bags & trendy kolaphuri chappal's (right)

Selection of Mojri's

Various Footwear options to jazz up your rustic look

Warli Tribe pattern bangles

Bangles of various kinds of material. Moulded into the shape and pattern desired

Try adding these elements to your clothing and see the difference - we sure saw it.

All the items shown above are available at the exhibition that goes on till the 9th of Jan 2012 at Kamla Raheja College, Juhu so catch it while you can. (for those who've missed it they have 4 exhibitions a year, you can follow their website for further details)

Count your blessings, our heritage is rich and something we all must be proud of. Living in westernized India, we at times tend to forget our roots and its these touches of heritage that we can add to our daily life (a lot in what we wear and otherwise too) that remind us of what we are, what we have and what we should take immense pride in.

We hope you've enjoyed reading & viewing this different angle snazz brings to you this week.

Supersonic - Hypnotic - Funky - Fresh

We know its just the beginning but if the world is going to end in 2012, we'd better go out in style. Keep up with us and we'll give you the 411 on how to do it right.

Bright colors, especially neons will come into their own this year. These neon like shades look the best when combined with softer colors such as grey's and nude's. This year will be all about experimenting with more & more colors, neons being the winner amongst them all.

Theres something about a neon that adds that pizzazz to an outfit. We'd suggest you go all out and blind them with your snazz.

Yellow Full Sleeved Top: Khodal - Waterfield Road
Bow-Printed Dress Jacket: ICE Garments
Nude Shade Pants: Vero Moda
Canvas Style Wedges: Shoes & Beyond
Neckpiece: AL's - Hill Road
Oversized Hoop Earrings: Colaba Causeway
Watch: Aldo
(Prices of all the above on request)

Nude pants are a must have for this (and every) season. They can give an extremely sporty-everyday look as well as a trendy one when paired with tops of a darker shade.

Prints never go out of style, but wearing them differently is what sets your style apart. A thin dress jacket or even a printed waist belt can do wonders for your look.

Accessories are our personal favorite, but this is the time for the colors to take control and accessories to simply compliment. Going with a symbol oriented neckpiece (like the peace sign shown above) & a nice watch would be the bare minimum that you'd require.

Looks like these can be paired with flats as well as heels. A Canvas wedge strikes that perfect balance between casual and dressy, these are a must have in every shoe rack.

What are you waiting for? TRUST US, TRY IT..we'd never want you to look anything but snazzy!

-So much more than black & white, don't be afraid to let it shine.

Until next time
